In November of 1999, Mike Oliver's good friend Phillip Debord introduced him to the martial arts. Under Masters Ron and Dave Joslin, Mr. Oliver learned the Okinawan art of Isshinryu Karate. He greatly enjoyed everything that he experienced in class and quickly realized that what he was learning was also applying to every facet of his life. It wasn't long before he was assisting his instructors in classes and found that helping both kids and adults with their training was very rewarding for him.
In 2002 he opened his first school with Sensei Debord in Sacramento. Three years later, Masters Ron and Dave Joslin awarded him his black-belt in Isshinryu Karate. In 2006, Mr. Oliver began teaching full time as a lead instructor for Master Joslin at their large Auburn dojo—one of the biggest Isshinryu schools in the country. It was there that he continued to learn how to really teach the benefits of the martial arts to children and adults.
Mike Oliver is still very active in the Isshinryu community and still supports his instructors and the school he came from. He is very proud of his karate lineage and teaches to pass the awesome benefits that he received from his teachers on to his students.
